A 19th Century convalescence chair.
Substantial mahogany frame, newly upholstered in grey tweed. Completely original bar re-covering. Swing out arm rests, reclining back, gout stool or foot rest.
Ovarine plaque “J WARD” to the reverse.
John Ward went into partnership with Thomas Griffin, invalid chair-maker, 6 Leicester Square in approximately 1845. By 1851 Griffin had retired and Ward continued trading until 1903.
