A parcel gilt armchair attributed to Morel & Hughes, (1790-1831).
The scrolled padded backrest above a squab cushion flanked by open arms on C-scroll supports above foliate collared tapering legs raised on there original brass castors.
English, London, 1800-1810.
The attribution rests with a strong correlation of the chairs produced for Henry Holland by Morel & Hughes for interiors at Southill, Bedfordshire, in the newly fashionable French style, the c scroll arm supports and the position of the upholstered arm rests are very similar but the most striking similarity is the treatment of the carved foliate collars to the top of the front legs and the rake and form of the backrest, overall the finish, decoration and construction method make the case for a solid attribution.
