The ebonised frame raised on its original brass castor and bearing the manufacturer’s paper label to the underside, retaining both squab cushions.

 A superb example in every respect.

James Mein was the most celebrated of all the cabinetmaker in the Scottish Borders, working in Kelso from 1784 until his death in 1830.

Amongst his local patrons were the Dukes of Roxburghe at Floors Castle and the Earl of Haddington at Mellerstain.
