Fairground Devils

Ref: 9081

Sold.

A pair of large carved American redwood bearded Devil busts.

The pair retain a lot of the original painted surface, there is a single horn included but not attached, the other is lost.

Busts of this type were fitted to the front of Showmans wagons as a rolling advert for the Circus or sideshow.

The likely makers of these Devils were either The Fielding Bros of NewYork, Samuel A. Rob or The Sebastian Wagon Co.

Purchased from American collector William (Billy) Jamieson, 1954 -2012,  they have since been in Drew's own collection. Offered to the market for the first time.

A chance to acquire an extremely rare and virtually untouched peice of American folk art.

American late 19th century.
