A bronze bust of the Greek poet Sappho, 620 BCE–550 BCE.
Patinated bronze with the plaster remnants of the Pietra dura eyes remaining.
Taken from the original found at the Villa of the Papyri, Herculaneum, Campania, Italy, 1st century BC.
Manufactured by The F Chiurazzi Foundry, Naples, in the later part of the 19th century.
A sophisticated bronze of great colour and scale.
